First Friday Malton Update
First of all Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.
Last month was our annual Christmas Lunch which was excellent and very enjoyable for all those who came. At the next meeting Paul Hampson from Action Coach is going to give a short presentation on how to make your business better or he might just get us to change clothes!!!! Should be interesting either way!
Please note the First Friday of next month is the 1st January and I for one will be nursing a hangover, so we have put it back a week to the second Friday (8th January).
The next networking event will be held again at The Old Lodge, Old Maltongate, Malton, YO17 7EG on Friday 8th January 2010 between 12 noon – 2pm. As before it will be a chance for everyone to get to know each other and generally network. Remember your business cards!!
The only cost for this meeting will be £10 per person and I will collect the money on arrival, this is a contribution for the rent of the room and the food. Please let me know if you are coming and bringing other people, so that I can arrange numbers for the tea, coffee and food.
If you have any questions please feel free to call me on 01653 699969 or if you would like to come simply reply to this email before Thursday 7th January 2010, so that I can arrange numbers with The Old Lodge. If you know of anyone else who might be interested please feel free to ask them, but do let me know for numbers.
I look forward to seeing you at the networking meeting.
Kind Regards
Chris Davies
PS
As some of you are aware, but some of you may not, Davies Recruitment has stopped trading and we will be shutting it down in the New Year. However I am still going to run this networking group with the assistance of Michael Oglesby.
As well as this I have set up a First Aid Training business and will be running First Aid course throughout next year. The first course is happening on the 14th January 2010 at Swinton Sports Hall and it is the new HSE approved Emergency First Aid at Work qualification which is suitable for employers who have more than 5 people working in a retail or office environment. This is a one day course and costs £90.00 per person.
For the more adventurous of you we are also running an Outdoor First Aid Course on the 6th and 7TH February 2010 at Dalby Forest. This course is specific for people who enjoy the outdoors either as a guide or instructor as well as recreational basis. The course at Dalby is geared towards Mountain Bikers as we are running it in conjunction with Purple Mountain, but is suitable for all people either enjoying the outdoors or working in remote places. The cost for this is £140.00 per person.
If you would like more information on either of the above please call me on 01653 692292 or 07748 965696 or email chris@rocknroutes.co.uk

Business Link Show Me the Money Humber Enviromental Network

“Show me the Money!”
Wednesday December 16th. CATCH Facility, Stallingborough
Thursday December 17th. Map Room, The University of Hull
Friday December 18th. Sewerby Hall; Bridlington
All events 7:30 – 9:30 am
As the start to the New Year approaches and budgets are being set, all businesses may be wondering where they can get assistance towards their environmental improvement programmes. “Show me the Money” will outline financial support packages which are either immediately available or will be open to applications early in the New Year. The first session looks at financial packages available to all businesses focussing specifically on CO2Sense Yorkshire’s Innovative Projects scheme which will open in January 2010 and the Carbon Trust’s Interest Free loan scheme.
Following the coffee break, two schemes which are specifically available to small and medium enterprises will be discussed. These are the Business Resource Efficiency Improvement Grant (BREIG) which can help towards capital purchases, consultancy and training, administered by YFM. The other scheme is the Innovation Vouchers which can grant businesses up to £3000 of support from approved research providers. Administered by Business Link Yorkshire, this is designed to allow companies to carry out research into new and innovative approaches to their business.

Another Malton Business Networking Group you might like to attend
Here are the details about the next event, it would be brilliant to see you, if you can make it. And if you know of anyone who might be interested, then do tell them to come- the more the merrier or give my details:
Where and When:
Wednesday 9th December 2009 at Kirkbymoorside Golf Club, 5.45-7.45pm.
The address is:
Manor Vale
Kirkbymoorside
North Yorkshire
YO62 6EG
What's it about:
This event could see up to 25 companies attending. It's an opportunity to talk to everyone in the room to see if there's a possibility that your services are needed (and vice versa). It's within this 2 hour period, over dinner, that business can be done. You may not directly be in need of someone's services, but perhaps another business colleague or friend is, at which point, you can recommend them, or indeed you can also be promoted.
Cost:
There is no membership fee and no other hidden costs, other than the price of dinner (10 pounds). I can guarantee you will get at least 10 referrals from one meeting, and it can spiral from there. There are also opportunities to promote your business while at the event, which can be discussed, if interested.
Why go to a Networking Event:
It's a natural way to create awareness of your service/ product/ business and to get the message out to other firms in the region, so that they can recommend you. As we all know, word of mouth is the best way of generating leads and a great financial boost without the expensive advertising costs in magazines, newsletters or on the radio. Not only does the event give you an opportunity to find new customers but to make long- lasting custom as well.
Warm regards,
Serena Farrow

KP Club Pocklington XMAS Menu
First Friday Club: Christmas Lunch
The festive season is upon us and as usual we are having a sit down dinner as our networking meeting this month. It will be great to see you if you come every month or have only been once or twice this year and of course anyone new is always welcome.
Here are the details:
Last month Adrienne Richards of Malton BMW gave us an insight into the world of buying a car, the different ways this can happen and also the various things to take into account including stuff on tax, very impressive for a none accountant. It was extremely interesting, so thank you for that Adrienne and if you would like to know more I am sure Adrienne would be happy to have a chat at future meetings. This coming month we have no one to talk as we will be all sitting down tucking into a Christmas lunch, however Steve the Magician has said he will provide some entertainment between courses, so thank you for that Steve.
So the Christmas Lunch and networking event will be held again at The Old Lodge, Old Maltongate, Malton, YO17 7EG on Friday 4th December 2009 between 12 noon – 2pm (This may go on for longer!!). As before it will be a chance for everyone to get to know each other and generally network as well as eat a lovely Christmas Lunch. Remember your business cards!!

New Date for Pocklington Network Next Event
"We write to inform you that due to circumstances beyond our control the meeting of the Pocklington Network that was due to be held on Tuesday 8th September has been postponed . It has now been rearranged to take place at the KP Golf Club at 7,30 am on Tuesday 22nd September.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and look forward to seeing you at the rearranged meeting."
First Friday in Malton - Golf Day
The venue is Malton & Norton Golf Club and we will be playing 18 holes. Unfortunately the golf club can’t accommodate us for food that day, but we are welcome to use the 19th hole for drinks, a suggestion was to retire to a local curry house if people would like something to eat. Your views and interest on this are welcome.
The cost is £30 per head, obviously if you are members you will not have to pay, which is payable on the day. If it would be easier for people you can make a cheque payable to “1st Friday Club” and I’ll write a cheque out for the full amount on the day. It might be easier for people to put it through your books and or expenses.
Those who are interested please let me know by Monday 31st August if you are coming for definite and also let me know about a curry afterwards and if you want to pay the 1st Friday Club. If you do please send the cheques to me at The Brambles, Middle Street, Swinton, Malton, YO17 6SR.

One of Our Firends is Holding A Great Business Lunch
Going for Gold
Find out what the 2012 London Olympics has to offer to businesses in the region
Kindly Sponsored by RWR Printing Ltd Leeds
Dear Colleagues Join us for an evening of Inspiration and Opportunity
The organisers of this event, EventBusters Ltd, has had a long association with World Class Sport. We are running the first of our 'not for profit' sporting dinners for business owners in the region at The Triton Inn, Brantingham on the 17th September 2009. The proceeds from the first dinner will go to Brough Cricket Club.
The aim of each evening will be to deliver to guests valuable information to help their businesses in the form of a dinner with guest speakers. Each event will provide an excellent networking opportunity and have the added bonus of giving support to an amateur sports club in the region.
To start this series off we are focusing on the opportunities still available for businesses leading up to The London Olympics in 2012
The ability to stay focused, seize opportunities and apply strategies are skills which are well developed in top athletes. These skills are also key to business success, Our speakers will give you an insight into not only what opportunities are out there, but how to recognize and identify opportunity and apply a strategy for success.
As the 2012 Olympics approach fast there are still many opportunities for businesses to tender for work. This is not confined to large businesses around London but open to all sizes of businesses throughout the country. The Olympic Training Camp at Bishop Burton is an example of this and will bring prestige and more visitors to our region.
Master of Ceremonies for the evening is Nick Danby, Face 2 Face CPD Development through Experience
Our two guest speakers will enlighten you and answer your questions on what 2012 could mean to your business.
Glen Mauchlen Dobson Yorkshire Gold Business Club
Glenn Mauchlen Dobson is the Commercial Director of Ven Management. Since January 2009 Glenn has spearheaded the Yorkshire Gold Business Club which has been established to maximise the commercial benefits of major projects such as the London 2012 Olympic Park and the Para Olympic Games to businesses in our region. Glenn has extensive commercial experience in construction, IT and the security industry having worked for Coco-Cola Enterprises, ANT/Bosch Telecommunications and Rittal Ltd. The last four years have been focused on working on and around the London 2012 Olympic Park. He is based at both the Sheffield and Canary Wharf offices in order to support and link the regional membership with London opportunities.
Jeanette Dawson Principal of Bishop Burton College
In 2005 a Property Strategy was developed for major capital development of the college campus. The news on 6 July 2005 that the 2012 Olympic Games would be held in London was inspirational for the college. It was a defining moment which led us to think about the skills and facilities required and to plan accordingly. The college already had a Property Strategy and Campus Development Plan which included a new Indoor Equine Arena. The plan for a new indoor riding school was then changed to a plan for an Olympic size Equestrian Arena. This wonderful facility was opened by the Princess Royal in October 2008 and we now have another world class venue in Yorkshire. The venue has been accepted as a training camp for the 2012 Olympics and in July 2010 we are hosting the Pony European Championships. This is just one building in a capital programme which has taken the Bishop Burton College into the 21st century – and there is more to follow.
Tickets are £45 to include dinner with wine and coffee. 7 pm

Another Business Networking Event in Pocklington Launches
Business for Breakfast is coming to Allerthorpe Park Golf Club
Don’t participate in the recession!
If you’re serious about growing your business, you should know that:
70% of all new business is obtained through networking
A referral produces 80% more business than a cold call
So if you were to join a networking group that specialises in business referrals, how much do you think you could increase your business by?

As a B4B member, every person in your group gets to know you, your business and the kind of business
referrals you are looking for. When you consider that most business people have at least 250 contacts each, you can perhaps begin to understand the huge potential in being part of a group that works for the benefit of each other. It’s like having your own sales force, only much more cost effective! We are currently looking for forward thinking business people to join our Allerthorpe Park group.
As we only allow one member per profession to join each group, this is a fantastic opportunity to tap into an exclusive source of referrals and lock out your competition.
Why not come along as a guest to our launch meeting on September 24th. Registration and breakfast from 0645 with the meeting held between 0700 and 0830.

First Friday in Malton - Golf Day
Morning all Golfers
If you are not interested in the Golf day please ignore this email, however if you have had a change of heart please let me know which of the following dates you can do.
Right then I have applied an extremely scientific approach to this and come up with the following options.
July – forget about it too many holidays for all you lucky people.
August – again forget about it too many holidays going on.
So that leaves a small window in September before people take more holidays. We have available Thursday 3rd September, Friday 4th September (which is the date of the normal meeting so we might be able to pull that one together) or Monday 7th September.
Please let me know by Friday 31st July which days you would be interested in and I can then finalise the day and get it booked with Ian’s help.
Kind Regards,
Chris Davies
